PNGTA warns TSC of disruption

By ALISON ANIS
THE PNG Teachers Association has given the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) three working days to reinstate teachers who have been affected as a result of the industrial action taken last year.
The PNGTA warned that they would disrupt this year’s school resumptions, beginning in two weeks’ time, if TSC did not reinstate these teachers.
Teachers in the National Capital District and Central met yesterday at the PNGTA headquarters in Waigani to petition the TSC and the Government on a number of outstanding issues, including teachers’ dismissals, suspension and discrepancies in leave fares.
Southern region secretary Ugwalubu Mowana, who spoke on behalf of the teachers, called on the commission to withdraw the decision carried out as a result of the strike and reinstate the teachers affected.
Mr Mowana urged the reinstatement of Martin Kenehe, the vice-president for PNGTA, and to revoke the demotion decision on Joanne Kalama, Sakius Donis and Aita Senangepe and the dismissal of Andrew Nuabe, Ben Yalo and the suspension Synell Kou’u as union executives.
The regional secretary said he believed the actions taken by the teaching commission as a result of the strike were nullified by court orders.
He said the action taken by the commission to apply section 95 of the TSC Act was done with haste and lacked ethical and moral consideration for human life.
“Section 95 of the teaching service act did not apply to all the teachers that went on strike, instead TSC chose only few to be disciplined and that is not fair.”
