Polye hails move by Baki, senior cops

THIS year’s general election may fail if the police force remained divided, Deputy Prime Minister Don Polye warned.
He commended the decision of Police Commissioner Gari Baki, former acting commissioner Fred Sheekiot, Tom Kulunga and acting Deputy Commissioner for operations Tony Wagambie to bury the past and reconcile.
He said these men had done extremely well in maintaining stability within the police force in their respective capacities during the time of turbulence leading up to the appointment of the police commissioner.
Mr Polye urged Mr Baki to put aside personal grudges and differences and work together to restore stability, pride and trust in the force.
“Instability of the force during the elections can result in a failed election and ultimately a failed State,” Mr Polye said.
He said the police force belonged to the people of PNG and must be seen to be politically neutral and transparent to its members.
