IRC gets new customs commissioner

THE Internal Revenue Commission has a new commissioner for customs.
He is Gay Juffa, a veteran law enforcement officer, who has spent over a decade with the IRC.
Mr Juffa’s appointment was confirmed last week.
In announcing his appointment, Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu said the appointment of the commissioner for customs would ensure that the Government met its regional responsibilities in facilitating legitimate trade and movement of people and protect PNG borders.
Mr Juffa, who comes from Oro province, replaces Paul Iramu, who was acting on the position.
“In the light of the IRC’s emphasis on improving border security and combating transnational crimes, which is now an important global issue, Mr Juffa has been appointed to ensure that the Government meets its regional responsibilities in facilitating legitimate trade and movement of people and protect PNG’s borders.
“Mr Juffa has been serving with the IRC for more than 11 years as a career law enforcement officer with experience in enforcement, border security and intelligence along with international respect of many countries and other law enforcement agencies that will complement his new role as the commissioner for customs,” Sir Rabbie said.
He commended Mr Iramu for his contribution to the Commission and the Government during his acting period, and called on all staff of customs and the Commission to work together with the new commissioner for customs.
