Tuna, Guss plan to bag Iwaia basketball grand final crowns

IWAIA basketball grand final favourites Tuna (men) and Guss (women) are confident of bagging the Peter Oresi trophy tomorrow.
On the North Coast of Oro Bay LLG in Ijivitari district, the fifth showdown will showcase heaps of talents from the rural level.
After eight rounds, Snappers finished on top in the men’s competition with 18 points, Tuna 12, Wings 10 and Guss two, to qualify for the semi-finals.
Tuna grilled Snappers 33-31 in the qualifier while Wings tamed Guss 35-20.
But in the preliminary final, Wings edged Snappers 31-29, but pulled out of the grand showdown due to technicalities.
Tuna engineered by veteran Lester Guwada, Champion Bagari, Jonathan Okapia, Evan Dagina and Nicholas Bangai are prepared to snatch the major prize.
But Snappers with lofty Peter Beguma, Ladude brothers Trophian and Dick, Sam Oimbau and Kelly Deriga will try to unsettle the opposition.
Both sides play fast attacking basketball.
In the women’s decider, Guss with Virra Bangai, Nancy Guwada, Olga Dagina, Margaret Beguma and Naomi Maino are ready to go.
Snappers’ Charlotte Baude, Bibra Yami, Philipha Dagina Binoria Bagari and Martha Beguma are planning to upset the cart.
Association chairman Boniface Bonana and councillor James Guwada said PNG’s Oceania level one ticketed Jack Ami and national level one ticketed Joe Neba would be umpires for both finals.
