Gazelle and Elcom to shake up top
teams
By EKONIA PENI
TOP teams Brown Eagles and SPIA Manolos are in for a shake-up when
they clash with arch-rivals Gazelle and Elcom respective in the
Port Moresby men’s softball on Sunday.
Eagles will meet Gazelle while Manolos face Elcom in the main
match.
Gazelle are determined to win to avenge the 10-1 thrashing they
suffered at the hands of Eagles in round one.
Elcom were also beaten 9-3 by Manolos and now the powermen have
their chance to avenge it.
Both Gazelle and Elcom have improved since round one in general
play and are expected to show high level batting to upstage the
top teams.
Manolos displayed exceptional batting last weekend when they
thrashed Airways Bears 14-0.
They can be assured of another positive outcome if they maintain
the same batting performance against Elcom’s pitcher Danny Tovia.
The need to win should be enough reason for Robert Livingood, Pasi
and Danny Pialkolos, Jerry Edward and Jeffrey Moru to bat well and
provide the back up needed by pitcher/catcher combination of
brothers Ora and Saga Gimi.
Elcom have to bat well as a team and not rely on the Tovia
brothers Demas, Isikel Jr and Danny for the assault. Established
batters, including Eddie Simba, Simon Daniel, Alistair Tavol and
Dimitris Wosley, must rise to the occasion.
Gazelle’s Patrick Pilak and Nelson Kiap will be prepared to pitch
their team to victory against Eagles.
But as shown in recent matches, their efforts would be useless if
they don’t have solid batting back-up.
Gazelle’s fielding errors were the cause of their loss to Elcom
last weekend and they would need to brush up if they are to beat a
well-prepared Eagles side.
In the other matches, Bullets should beat Samurai and a close
result should be expected between Dolphins and Kopex.
Bears will expect some fight from Malangan.
Meanwhile, Manolos men’s team have been sponsored by South Pacific
Insurance Advisors Limited (SPIA).
