Admiralty out to rattle Wantoks
By WENDY KATUSELE
THE Port Moresby women’s softball A Grade matches pitch off this
weekend after a month-long break with interesting fixtures on
card.
A polished Admiralty side take on top team Budget Real Estate
Wantoks.
Admiralty, under the watchful eyes of coach Douglas Paak, struck
the winning combination before the break.
The Manusians would be depending on the pitcher and catcher Janet
Peter and Gloria Mates to stop Wantoks’ aggressive batters.
Peter’s medium pace pitching has caught many renowned batters
offguard and she is sure to repeat that performance.
Admiralty’s infielders – Paula John on first base, Jenny Paak
second, Hazel Eremas third and Ruth Ngahan shortstop – should have
the support of outfielders Darusilla Willaim, Sophie Malaibe and
Winnie Aihi to stake their claim.
But nothing should be taken away from Wantoks, who should have
their experienced Kolish Banam, Sandra Sawaraba and Anna Trawen,
lead their charge.
Shortstop Mathilda Moe, who had a good start to the season, should
continue her top form in batting with the assistance of Val Lekot,
young Elizabeth Arek, Winnie Parom and Sawaraba.
In the other interesting match, Stingerz should start their
campaign with a win when they take on last year’s runners-up
Gazelle.
Stingerz, with the recruitment of pitcher Selina Karai, Michelle
Rolly, Nicky Simba, Trudi Simba and Leno Simba, are expected to
rise to occasion.
The Antelopes, however, should be hard to stop with services of
experienced Jenny Pilak, Mectil Raymond, Grace Wanma, Pala Manet
and Maggie Sam.
In the other matches, Manolos take on their New Ireland wantoks
Malangan while defending champions Airways Bears lock horns with
Dolphins.
