Apulin Brothers on a roll in Wabag
league
By PETER PIA
A BUMPER crowd are expected this
Sunday at Aipus Johnson Siki oval in Wabag to witness Apulin
Brothers lock horns with Tere Tigers in Wabag rugby league
pre-season.
Brothers are in top form after two wins in as many outings since
the start of the season.
Last weekend, they forfeited Northern Bulls.
Brothers will be led by experienced George Aipi, Bobby Awali, Geno
Pone and Nathan Anjo.
Skipper Harry Tini will call the shots in the backline with
support from Lolo Sapun and Emmanuel Sarr.
Their fast play and quick ball work are advantages against Tigers.
But, Tigers have veterans Jeffery Maino and Kandapol brothers
Erekali and Gibson to steer the team.
In other matches, BS Taranagu will play Lower Lai United, KTL
Sharks take on Lupa Royals, Lorma Panthers meet Ambum Magani and
Mal-Por Warriors face A1 Hawks.
Bulls are on bye.
Last weekend’s results: Sharks defeated Magani 4-0, Tarangau
nailed Hawks 8-0, Royals upset Warriors 14-6 and Brothers
forfeited Bulls.
Match committee Buka Leme said yesterday the weekend games would
be used as selection trials for Toyota Enga Mioks train-on squad.
WRL president Sandis Tsaka told The National yesterday that the
early pre-season start had paved way for WRL executives and Toyota
Enga Mioks selection board to prepare for the selection and
discuss on other agendas through out the year.
Tsaka predicted this year’s competition to be tougher than last
year.
