Dion gives K10,000 for Governor’s Cup tourney

By ELIZABETH VUVU
EAST New Britain Governor Leo Dion has injected K10,000 into Governor’s Cup softball tournament set for March 2 to 5.
Dion, a staunch supporter of softball in the province, has funded the tournament since 2001 and spending more than K30,000.
This year’s tournament will be open to teams from outside the province.
It will also see the winners in both men’s and women’s divisions walking away with K2,000.
The runners-up will get K1,000, third placing will get K500 each and the fourth place K250.
Organising committee chairman Aaron Maramun said the tournament would be staged early in March to make way for representative sides from the province to take part in the national softball championships in Kavieng.
Maramun is calling on interested teams and clubs to attend a very important meeting scheduled for next Wednesday at Ron’s Apartment starting at 9am.
He said the affiliation fee was K250 per team and K10 per player registration fee.
Deadline for fees is Feb 16. For more information Maramun can be contacted on 9829722, Albert Evald 9828165 or Cleopas Warpit on 9827130 or 6921820.
