New aid post for Tomu awaits CHW

THE Tomu people in Nomad, Western province, now have a aid-post to receive basic health services.
The Porgera Joint Venture through the tax credit scheme erected two permanent buildings, one to be used as an aid-post and the other as the community health workers’ (CHW) house.
The keys to the buildings, which cost over K250,000, were handed to the people yesterday by PJV’s superintentant community relations - riverine, Apa Muruk and superintentant buildings and projects, Joe Magun.
The aid-post has a two-bed ward, examination room, out-patient area, a shower room, water tank, solar hot water system to sterilise equipment and septic toilet.
The three-bedroom CHW house has a kitchen, living room, shower room, water tank and septic toilet. Both buildings are on iron posts.
Timber for the buildings was cut locally while other building and plumbing materials were supplied by PJV, who also provided a carpenter/supervisor, an assistant and a plumber with the labour, provided by locals.
A CHW at Nomad would to be sent to Tomu with medical supplies.
Local leader Sondema Yabai said his people were very happy as health services would once again be provided and thanked PJV for meeting one of their basic needs.
He told the people to look after the buildings and the CHW and his family well.
