Marat is right
I REFER to the call to ban nightclubs because of sinful activities by the Minister for Justice Dr Allan Marat and the support by the ministry’s first secretary Camillus Vovore (Jan 7). The so-called entertainment such as strip show and wet T-shirt are not genuine nightclub activities and should be condemned because they do not conform to our cultural values. This is exploitation and abuse of our young girls. The objective of all nightclubs is to make profit. They are not interested in promoting the values of human dignity and respect. Dr Marat is right and must be firm with his decision. He needs the support from the community in this fight. – Russell Coomer, Port Moresby

Funding main issue

THIS is a reply to “Tomahawk” (Jan 18) about the so-called incompetent administration. Firstly, the vice-chancellor has sacrificed his official residence because the Government did not have the money to maintain his official residence. Secondly, the university would not be running if the current administration had not settled outstanding debts from past years under a different management. The problem faced by Unitech is not the management but funding. We should be asking questions whether our Government sees education as an important area. The VC has given his best years to the university. Get your facts right. – Mangi Morobe, Perth, Australia

Replace Unitech VC

THE Government cannot turn a blind eye to the deteriorating situation in Unitech. The solution is simple – the NEC must appoint a new and competent vice-chancellor and an independent auditor to audit all the books before the change of hats. The same old VC has been there for ages and like any public office holder, he is past the sell-by date. If a house is not in order, then that means the manager is no longer in control. We don’t need a rocket scientist to explain Unitech’s woes. Clear the house and let some heads roll. – Albert T Mutumap, Australia

Kiunga needs doctors

I WOULD like to bring this important matter to the governor’s attention. Kiunga Hospital is a government hospital but it has no doctors for more than 15 years and because of this, patients are transferred to Rumginae and Tabubil hospitals. The governor must employ doctors immediately as the manager and administrator are not doing their job. Please appraise the entire operations and structure so that it will serve the people of North Fly. It’s very embarrassing to see Rumginae Hospital having doctors and properly administered while a nationally recognised institution like Kiunga Hospital is without a doctor. – Deceased family, Kiunga

A loss for PNG

I AM lost for words by the death of a fine academic and national adviser Dr Albert Nita, and the passing of an exemplary statesman, PNG ambassador and politician in Sir Joseph Nombri. Both were respectable individuals with good reputations. It is without a doubt they have left a vacuum in the academic, diplomatic and political arena that can never be matched nor replaced. Enga, Simbu, and Papua New Guinea have lost two leaders. To the families and relatives of Sir Nombri and Dr Nita, we mourn with you in this time of grievance and pray God grants you peace and comfort in this day and hour. – Stephen Kapus Kikala, Tokyo
