Heads have it

THE National Executive Council (NEC) will confirm the permanent heads of Government departments and statutory bodies by next week.
Government sources said heads would be chosen for the State Enterprise and Communication Department, the Mineral Resource Development Company, the National Planning and Monitoring Department, the Foreign Affairs and Immigration Department, the Civil Aviation Authority, the National Fisheries Authority and provincial administrators.
They said the Department of Personnel Management had submitted a list of candidates for all the positions to the Public Service Commission.
Five names were submitted for each position.
The commission narrowed it down to three candidates for the NEC to consider.
The sources said some individuals had been occupying positions in an acting capacity which the NEC is expected to remedy.
“The National Executive Council will be meeting early next week to confirm the appointments of some key Government departments and provincial administrators,” one source told The National.
He said there had been very strong lobbying from within the Government, but “the laws and processes are there to be followed with all appointments made on merit”.
