Chemica gets delivery of 80,000 jute bags

MAJOR agricultural supplies store, Chemica, yesterday got delivery of two containers of jute bags to its Taraka, Lae, yard.
The 80,000 coffee bags were imported from Bangladesh, and had arrived over the weekend to alleviate a severe shortage faced in the province.
Chemica executive Ros Campbell said three more containers would be arriving next week.
He was confident there would be enough in time for the coffee season in April.
But others are not so optimistic.
One of the big players in coffee in Northern and Morobe provinces, Mainland Holdings, said the shortage was cause for concern.
A major milling company, Busu Coffee, was also concerned. It needed the bags to send its coffee to Niugini Coffee, Tea and Spice for export.
Last week, Coffee Industry Corporation’s (CIC) chief executive officer Ricky Mitio said that 15 containers of the double-lined jutebags would be off-loaded at the Milford Haven Wharf, Lae, Morobe province, at the weekend.
But it is believed most of these were for major exporters.
