NCD teachers start academic year

In NCD, it was all serious for teachers as they started their first week into the academic year yesterday.
Primary schools opened their gates for the first time since last December to teachers for preparations for classes, which would resume next Monday.
Head teacher for Ward Strip Primary School, Sam Puwa was happy at the attendance of his teachers.
“More than three quarter of the staff members have come to school and they have been assigned a class each, so they would be working on their programmes to prepare for next week,” he said.
Teachers were also expected to fill in their duty resumption forms as well as other necessary information required by the Education Department.
In Western Highlands province, teachers were expected to move to their respective schools this week for preparations for next week.
Provincial assistant secretary Hans Gima said yesterday that postings for teachers in his province were a bit late but had already been put up at the Kapal Haus for them to see.
“The provincial education board was a little bit late in teachers’ postings but they were out now and teachers were looking at them,” he said.
to find out where they should be, Mr. Gima told The National yesterday.
He said he expects teachers to move to schools assigned to them this week and get ready for next week.
He also added that there are problems of postings whereby teachers refuse the school they are assigned to and the community not wanting a particular teacher in their area. But he said these are normal for every Education Office during the start of school and would be looked into by the PEB only if the people affected go through the right procedures.
“Otherwise, we at Western Highlands are geared up and ready to kick off for 2008 school year,” he said.
