Gene set for
testimonial match
By HENRY MORABANG
ENGLAND-based PNG Kumuls Stanley Gene is looking forward to his testimonial
match when his club, Hull Kingston Rover FC, takes on Castleford Tigers at
Craven Park on Sunday.
Gene was disappointed the scheduled game against Oldham was cancelled last
weekend but is excited with the prospect of the fans seeing Rovers’ new
signings for the first time at his testimonial match this weekend.
Gene is looking forward to the match against the Castleford Tigers at Craven
Park (kick-off 2pm).
Buoyed by the large turnout from the Hull FC fans at Paul King’s recent
testimonial game, Gene is hoping for similar support from the Rovers’
faithful and rugby fans in general.
Gene said: “I can’t wait for Sunday; it will be a very emotional day for me
and my family. I have so much to look forward to this year both on and off
the field. My main aim though is to do my talking on the park and I will
always give 110%. Throughout my career, the supporters have always been
superb at whatever club I have played for. However, the Rovers fans will
always hold a special place in my heart and I will always consider Craven
Park home.”
“I am looking forward to a large crowd especially with the new-boys on show;
it will prove to them what magnificent fans we have at Craven Park. I can’t
thank Hull Kingston Rovers enough for what they have done for me.
With both clubs needing to see where they are at with their pre-season
preparations, it promises to be a great spectacle and hard-fought contest.
Officials are confident of a great turnout to support a man who has given so
much to the sport of rugby league.
PNGRFL chief executive officer Jeff Wade said, “This will be a special game
dedicated to Stanley for his services to the Club.
