Villagers offer food to contractor

THE Member for Okapa Bonny Oveyara and his predecessor and former ‘government-whip’ Tom Amukele last Monday joined hands with Okapa villagers to present garden produce to a contractor currently working on the Okapa road project in Eastern Highlands province
Mr Oveyara stated that presentation of food items by villagers from six constituencies in Okapa was a gesture of appreciation to the contactor Shorncliffe for working on the road from Tarabo to Okapa station, which the people considered as a vital link to business activities and progress and development of the rural people.
Garden produce including sweet potatoes, kaukau, cabbages, bananas, yams, sugar-cane and fresh vegetables accompanied by mutton and chicken cooked in traditional mumu were presented to the Shorncliffe project manager Patrick Saial.
Mr Oveyara, who organised the ceremony, thanked the former member Mr Amukele for initiating the road project with funds from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
EH provincial works manager Stephen Sapal whose delegation to the ceremony was also presented with food items, said the ADB was funding the Tarabo-Okapa road project at a cost of K22 million.
Both Mr Oveyara and Mr Amukele urged the people living along the road to cooperate with these workmen to enable them to complete the road project on time.
