Masked men rob logging company

THREE masked men robbed a logging company of about K11,900 in cash, machinery parts and foodstuffs at Konos Station in New Ireland lastFriday.

The robbers, who were all armed, fired several shots before escaping.
A bystander, identified as Robert Tumosong, was wounded and had been admitted to the Kimadan hospital.
The incident occurred at about 2.45pm at the Pinis beach front in Konos.
Kavieng police said a manager of Vanimo Jaya Ltd, Lee Khoon, and six workers were about to take a boat to Tabar Island, where the company was logging, when the robbers struck.
The robbers loaded the parts and foodstuffs into a company vehicle and drove off, along with K600 that was inside.
A few kilometres later near the Kabil village, the vehicle crashed after suffering a puncture.
The robbers abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Police recovered the parts and foodstuffs but not the cash.
