Ron Albert Oval flows with the wind

Words and Picture by KEVIN PAMBA
The recent strong winds that were felt around the country have left it’s mark in Madang town’s landmarks such as the Ron Albert Oval – the venue of the SP Cup and local rugby league matches.
The aging perimeter fence of Ron Albert Oval gave way to the winds and collapsed in several sections over the last few weeks as pictured.
The corrugated iron fence, which was barely standing on rotten timber posts, gave way to the might of the winds and collapsed, creating several gaping holes with other sections waiting to fall in the next strong wind.
With the rugby league games on recess, no one has attended to the collapsed fence and the corrugated iron sheets are lying on the ground susceptible to theft.
Pictured is one collapsed section of the perimeter fence of Ron Albert Oval.
The oval, which is owned by the PNG Rugby Football League, had been selected as one of the venues of SP Cup matches and was the adopted home-ground of premiers Mabey and Johnson Muruks.
