PNGDF excesses
Inquiry wants leeway to probe gross abuses

EVIDENCE of rampant financial abuse and corruption in the PNG Defence Force has prompted senior counsel assisting the board on inquiry John Kawi to call for a bigger and broader inquiry into the department.

Bridge over troubled Ramu... Heavy rain has cut off the link between Madang and Bundi, with a bridge between Yakumbu and Brahman Catholic Mission Station collapsing. The bridge is 10km from the main highway. The person responsible for building this road 30 years ago, missionary Max David said the continuous changing of course by the Ramu River made it difficult for the construction of a permanent bridge. The road serves some 30,000 people from Bundi and section of the Upper Ramu Plains. Major recent developments that depend on this road include the Ramu nickel project and the Yandera mining project (Marengo Mining Limited). According to Mr David the bridge’s collapse is affecting the movement of students and teachers returning for this academic year at Brahman High School.
