Manus budget approved

By VERONICA MANUK
MINISTER for Treasury Sir Rabbie Namaliu has approved the Manus provincial budget worth K18.2 million which focuses on improving basic needs of the people.
Provincial administrator Wep Kanawi handed the provincial budget and the 12 local level governments’ budget worth K2.5 million last week to the minister.
The provincial budget of K18.2 million is based on delivering of education, health, infrastructure and safe drinking water to the people.
Mr Kanawi said during the presentation of the budgets, he had raised the following matters with the minister:
n The budget was based on the province’s second year of the 10-year planned programme for easy monitoring and evaluation of planned programmes and projects for the long term; and,
n The provincial budget was not politically coloured or driven like other provincial budgets that had been framed for this fiscal year.
According to Mr Kanawi, Sir Rabbie said though it was an election year, the Manus budget was the smallest compared to other provinces.
Mr Kanawi said the LLG budget was yet to be approved, however, the minister had given indication that it would be approved.
