Court grants man K500 bail

By JOSHUA ARLO
A MAN has been granted K500 bail after being arrested and charged with two counts of false pretence, which he allegedly committed nine years ago.
Jackson Yagi is alleged to have obtained monies totalling K15,600 under false pretences from a Melpa Amos in Lae, Morobe province, in 1998.
The court granted the bail of K500 despite police asking for bail to be set at K1,000.
It is alleged that on Nov 20, 1998, Yagi said that he would sell a property to Mr Amos, and obtained K1,160 from him.
Four days later, he got K14,440 from Mr Amos.
Yagi left Lae for Port Moresby but was tracked down and charged under section 404 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code.
The Committal Court in Waigani has transferred the case to the District Court in Lae which Yagi is expected to appear before the court on Feb 2.

Six attached with Ramsi returns
SIX community police officers involved in the regional assistance mission for Solomon Islands (Ramsi) have returned from Honiara after completing their nine months assignment.
They were welcomed by Police Commissioner Gari Baki, acting deputy commissioner for operation Jim Andrews and community police deputy director acting chief Insp Daniel Lingoge at the Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby.
Their families were also on hand to welcome them.
Mr Baki in welcoming them said that they had done the Force and the nation proud by performing very well during their Ramsi stint.
“Ramsi coordinators have asked for more of our officers to take part in the Solomon Islands.”
Mr Baki also thanked the families of the officers for their support while they were involved in Ramsi.
