Teachers upset over postings

By ELIAS LARI
ABOUT 600 teachers in Enga province are still confused about their postings in this academic year.

The teachers claimed that their postings had been muddled up and not done according to the teachers’ requests and choices.
The teachers are also calling on the provincial education board (PEB) to review the postings or they would stage a mass protest in Enga.
Two teachers, who did not want to be named, fronted up at The National office in Mt Hagen yesterday and described the posting of teachers in Enga as riddled with favouritism and confusion.
According to the teachers, the PEB and the appointment committee messed up postings, thus throwing the start of the school year into total confusion.
They claimed that the confusion occurred because set procedures and policies in the appointment of teachers were grossly abused by the PEB and the appointment committee.
They described the posting as a “last-minute work”.
They also claimed that many coastal teachers were overlooked and postings not done according to merits and qualifications, “which is a setback for non-Engan public servants who want to come and serve the Enga people”.
Provincial education adviser Robert Ganim, when contacted yesterday, denied these allegations of the postings, adding that these teachers were only fighting over the positions.
He said all postings in the province had been satisfactorily completed.
He said the only problem they had in the province was the Kopen Secondary and Wabag Secondary Schools with the appointment of the principals and the deputy principals.
