Enga govt to recruit foreign teachers

THE Enga provincial government has set aside K1 million to recruit up to 20 foreign English teachers to teach in provincial schools.
Governor Peter Ipatas said it would cost a lot to recruit these teachers and additional funding would be sought.
He said he hoped the National Government would lift the suspension on the recruitment of foreign teachers so that his government would begin working on it.
“Whether it be two teachers or more, I want to kickstart the programme as soon as possible to improve the quality of education,” he told The National yesterday.
Mr Ipatas said the provincial government allocated K4-5 million for education each year, and most of it was used to subsidise school fees.
Now that the subsidy programme is dropped, the money would be used to build new classrooms, teacher’s houses and buy other equipment.
