Four houses razed, two raped

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
ABOUT 20 men allegedly raped two girls and burnt down four houses in a settlement outside Port Moresby yesterday morning.

The girls’ father was also slashed.
The residents of Gereka village were asleep when they heard shouting and banging on their doors at about 3am.
When Ben Slok went out to investigate, some men armed with guns and knives ordered him to get out.
“The men said they were searching for some boys,” he said.
“They rounded us up and checked the houses. After that they burnt our houses, including all our valuable items. We are left with only the clothes we have on.”
Mr Slok said he managed to escape and ran to alert a police reservist living about 500m away.
The reservist alerted the police but by the time they arrived, the men had fled.
Mr Slok said the men allegedly raped two sisters aged 16 and 17 years and assaulted their father.
The villagers have moved into the community hall.
Some villagers have also given them food and clothing.
