Tigers plan to ambush Manolos in Lae
women’s clash
By WENDY KATUSELE
TAUBMANS Tigers face holders Island Salvage Manolos in Lae women’s
softball in what should be an interesting encounter on Sunday at
the Niall Reserve.
The match is penned for 1.30pm start with a reformed Tigers side
looking to unsettle the reigning queens.
The reformation of the side had been boosted with the recruitment
of former Island Hawks players Tassie Manai, Joyce Ronnie, Nellie
Manai and Raphaella Manai, Tessie Woni-Simon from Kara Sharks Aida
Roberts.
Michelle Gebore and Rose Gebore after a season with Telikom have
re-joined their father and club mentor Jack Gebore.
Hurler Nellie Manai will have younger sister Raphaella calling the
shots from behind the home plate to restrict Manolos’ batters.
The teenagers have done well since their promotion to the senior
competition and should be able to contain the aggressive Manolos’
batting line-up of Tara Tomangana, Philomina Marut, Shirley
Tomangana, Piwen Ila and Beverly Pasen-Malum.
Manolos, with stand in pitcher Philomena Marut managed to beat
Kara Sharks 8-5 last weekend.
The national club champions have their lethal weapon and pitcher
Tara Tomangana and catcher Hennie Warpin to send her opponents
back to the dugout.
The two are set to dominate proceedings should Tigers fail to stay
ahead.
Tigers’ most consistent batter Woni-Simon should again rise to the
occasion with the support of Roberts, Ronnie, Tassie Manai and
Rose Gebore.
In the other match, Kabiu, led by Stephanie Manning face her
former team-mates from Kara Sharks.
Sharks will again depend on pitcher Pauline Bulumaris to do her
job from Delvin Woni and Essie Taule.
Telikom should collect easy points from forfeiting Burma Raiders.
