Update, maintain data
I REFER to the Bottom Line article on Jan 24. It is
very true that a good (up-to-date) data is important to policy making. It is
also sad to know that some of PNG’s available economic and national
statistics data ended abruptly in 2002. What happened between 2003 and 2007?
Are the relevant authorities away for holiday? We are and will be having
problem with decisions and policy making because much of the latest data
published by BPNG, Treasury and Department of National Planning on GDP,
economic growth and the contribution of various sectors to the economy
contain errors in some way. I urge the National Statistics Office and other
relevant bodies to look into this and get things on the road again. –

Protect our assets
I URGE the police, Telikom and legal authorities to tighten up law and
severely punish those caught making illegal phone connections. Our
Government must protect our country’s assets. Our air space is an important
asset and the Government and service provider must review existing laws. I
am sure that there are many illegal connections. If any of Telikom’s
technical officers or contractors are involved in this illegal activity,
they should be terminated on the spot and face the full force of the law. –

Roika’s actions slammed
I REFER to the article “Principal transferred, locals want him back” (Jan
22). The action by Timothy Roika to lock out teachers is not right. You
should have petitioned to the provincial education authorities. This is
obviously politically motivated as you and your group last year dumped
rubbish in front of Kapal Haus. Your actions have painted a bad image for
the Western Highlands province. Please do something useful instead. – Joe

Investigate NWH officer
I WOULD like to express my concern over one officer at the North Waigani
hostel (NWH) who is suspected of being involved in corrupt deals. While
there is a long waiting list, it is not surprising to see certain
individuals hanging around the NWH just to see this particular officer, and
eventually becoming tenants. I call on the managing director of National
Housing Commission to look into this matter as soon as possible. –

Nape’s duty questioned
WE, the people of Sinasina Yongomulg, want to know why Nape is in Australia
instead of bringing service to the people in the district? We want the
Ombudsmen Commission to investigate him from 2002 to 2007 on how he used the
district fund which we only saw four Toyota Landcruisers which he donated to
the health centres. If Nape cannot do the job, please leave and let someone
who is capable to take over. – Kimba Kapma, Port Moresby
