Kombiam LLG office razed to the ground
By JAMES PA GUMUNO
THE Kombiam local level government’s chamber in the Kombiam/Ambum
district, Enga province was burnt to ashes last Thursday afternoon.
According to provincial police commander Supt Michael Chare, the fire
started between 1pm and 1.30 pm yesterday.
Mr Chare said that the chamber constructed at the cost of K600,000, had
six living rooms for the staff, a conference room, a toilet and other
valuable items.
He said everything inside the chamber was burnt to ashes along with the
building.
He said no one was around when the building caught fire.
He said it took two hours for the building to be razed.
Mr Chare said that police suspected foul play in the torching of the
building.
He said investigation, were underway.
He said from the information received, all the councillors in the
Kombiam district have been demanding their monthly allowances even
though their five-year term of office expired in November last year.
He said the people in the district were not happy when rumours spread
that the chamber would be converted into a school for the children.
He said police strongly believed that some people actually set the
building on fire because of the reasons given.
Mr Chare said that police treated this as an alleged case of arson and
would fully investigate the matter and bring to justice the people
responsible so that justice can prevail.
He said that his station commander was on the ground investigating the
matter together with the criminal investigation officers and urged the
people to come forward without fear and provide the police with
necessary information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects
involved.
