Gazelle outrun Kopex

By THADDEUS TIRIMAN
LBC GAZELLE pitcher Nelson Kiap played a crucial role in his team,s 7-1 win over Kopex in the Digicel Port Moresby men’s A grade softball match at the Bisini diamonds.

Kiap’s performance also should ensure his pitching position in the Port Moresby squad and one of the draw cards up the selector’s sleeves for the National championships in March.
Gazelle were the first to score at the bottom of the first innings with two runs to Demas Totil and Toni Karani, who followed on in the third inning with another two runs. Consistent run scorer Gabriel Pamel could not do much in the first two innings but came home in the third to make the score five with Kopex yet to score.
Karani came home again for the third time in the fourth inning with the non-fielding hitter Willie Maudi to seal of the match.
On the other hand Kopex hurler Samuel Ropa struggled with his line but could not be helped further by his batters as they could not reach home plate until John Bualten in a single handed effort came home in the sixth and final round.
With four more rounds to go before the finals, there were a lot of heavy defeats as PNG Power extended their lead further on Saturday by making easy meat of Dolphins 13-3, SPIA Manolos defeated Malangan 11-2 and Market 2000 Brown Eagles belted Samurai Bulldogs 13-2.
