Work at Lakopen centre completed

THE renovation work at the Lakopen health centre at Aiyel Valley in the Wabag district has been completed thanks mainly to the Japanese government.
Last year, the Japanese government donated K258,000 while Inter Government Relation Minister and Member for Wabag Open Sam Abal provided K90,000 as counterpart funding for major renovation and building new blocks at the centre.
The Lakopen centre is serving more than 15,000 people in the valley.
According to Wabag district administrator Peter Yange, renovation work was completed early this month and is now awaiting for the official opening.
Mr Yange said due to its remoteness, people sought treatment at Lakopen instead of travelling long distance to Wabag and Wapenamanda for treatment.
Councillor Rodson Sakarao, representing the Waipilin and Kundu clans, thanked the Japanese government and Mr Abal for their assistance.
Mr Jacob Marcos who is from that area said his people has been lacking good health and road services for last decades.
He said Lakopen health center has been serving people from both Wapenamanda and Wabag districts.
He commended Mr Abal for his initiative to secure the donor funds.
Councilor Rodson Sakarao representing the Waipilin and Kundu clans thanked the Japanese government and Mr Abal for their assistance.
“What you have done is great and people will get much benefit from it,” said Councilor Sakarao.
He said that he is looking forward for more services to reach his people because they are peace loving and law abiding citizens.
The Lakopen health center also serves people in Tsak valley and Pina in Wapenamanda.
The official opening of the health center is set for early next month.
