Burns Peak settlers rejoice

By NANCY UARI
THE people of the Burns Peak Settlement in Hohola have a lot to rejoice about now.
Member for Moresby North-West Sir Mekere Morauta yesterday launched the Burns Peak water project under the electorate’s district water programme (DWIP).
The electorate has committed K25,000 to the project which will begin after formal approval from Eda Ranu.
“Food, water and shelter are an essential need and people cannot live without that,” Sir Mekere said.
The people of the settlement have been living without a proper water supply for the last 10 years.
The Burns Peak water project is one of five projects under the DWIP.
Two of the five projects are currently underway with one at the 4-Mile Works Compound public toilets and shower blocks and the other is the Morata-4 bore water project.
Sir Mekere said the aim of the programme was to improve standards of living of the people in the city, especially people in the settlement.
Other projects pending approval from Eda Ranu includes Nautana (NRI/Rainbow), Burns Peak Settlement and Koukou (Baruni).
An estimated K100,000 has been committed to the five programmes in the Moresby North-West electorate alone.
