PNG need not many political parties: Pundia

A PROMINENT leader in the Western Highlands province Micheal Pundia told more than 2,000 people in Mount Hagen city last week that the country did not need too many political parties.
He claimed that leaders with self interest started political parties to satisfy their own needs when they got into government.
Mr Pundia said many political parties had launched a fight against the ruling party, the National Alliance but the party had delivered in its five years in office.
Deputy governor Wai Rapa said Western Highlands had an emerging star in the deputy parliamentary leader for United Resource Party and Environment and Conservation Minister William Duma.
Mr Rapa said Mr Duma had initiated a lot of projects in his Hagen Open electorate in his time, and had a bright future.
Mr Duma was a private lawyer before entering politics, defeating veteran Paul Pora in the 2002 general election.
