Internet hook-up for two schools

TELIKOM PNG has installed broadband VSAT terminals in two high schools in Sandaun province.
VSAT stands for very small aperture terminal that is hooked into the internet.
The two broadband VSATs were additional to 13 other Gilat VSATs recently installed by Telikom in four rural districts.
The 13 Gilat VATs were installed Jimi and Tambul in Western Highlands province, and Aitape and Lumi in Sandaun.
As part of the Treasury rollout programme, Telikom would be installing a total of 150 VSATs in the 20 least developed districts as part of the telco’s commitment to rural communities to provide rural communication.
The other districts scheduled to have their VSATs installed soon are Nuku and Telefomin, also in Sandaun, and a location in Manus province.
Telikom said the facility would provide the users speedy access to information through the internet.
Students attending Vanimo and Lumi high schools will have access to the Internet through their broadband VSATs with the internet now becoming a rich resource for information.
