Make policies, laws to suit this era
SOME of our highly educated MPs and elites must be open
minded when commenting on certain issues affecting the social aspects of PNG
citizens.
Recently, these people have been commenting on nightclubs and pornography
that sounded so childish and narrow-minded.
These people should wake up and realise that some things have changed.
Comments about banning nightclubs do not serve the interest of all people
except for the holier than thou group.
Before making certain decisions or general comments on such issues, we need
to understand that there are socially different groups.
Then we also need to consider that PNG is not isolated but is linked to the
global world in which different cultures are replicated and certain
unfamiliar activities are being practised.
The continuous landscape of people movement, technology and knowledge mean
that we need to be alert to changes.
Some of our very old laws must be reviewed and amended, and new laws need to
be written rather than sitting back and complaining over certain issues or
talking about impossible tasks.
In Western countries, laws are amended to suit the changing time and the
needs of their people.
Are we doing this in PNG or are we sitting back and keep on complaining
about new issues?
Our leaders must think ahead and put policies and laws in place rather than
making short-term decisions.
