Hekari out to stamp its mark
By HENRY MORABANG
BOTH Hekari United and Besta Madang Fighters have only one thing in mind and
that is to be better their opposition when they meet in Telikom-sponsored
National Soccer League clash in Port Moresby.
Reigning champion United will be out to stamp its mark while Fighters will
give their best shot against the star-studded team.
In their previous meeting at Laiwaden Oval, both teams drew 4-all in game
that was marred by poor refereeing.
The National was unable to contact United’s coach Jerry Allan, however, it
is believed that he will field a strong side against their visitors.
Thinking footballer Andrew Lepani is starting to take the leading role in
set-plays for United – something hardly seen in many teams.
Coach and his manageress Vonnie John will be banking on their star players
in Jack Samani, Benjamin Mela, Abraham Iniga, Kema Jack and Enoch Abraham to
see them through against Madang Fighters.
Allan, who is a media-shy coach, is confident that his boys would rather do
the talking on the field.
United must win this match against Madang to consolidate their position on
the competition ladder.
Madang coach John Giringo said he had a young team which would definitely
give United a run for their money.
He predicted that there would be a good game on Saturday (tomorrow).
Giringo said they had acquired the services of Andrew Apo from Welgris
Highlanders, who will partner Niel Hanz in the frontline. The team
management hoped that Apo would solve the puzzle upfront from Madang
Fighters.
Also giving the support in the midfield will be Mol Buran, Gideon Laulam,
Hason Charles while in the backline, Abel Kabai, Jerry Laulam, Tarcissius
Mandarip, Joshua Kambuka and veteran John Panu will ensure United players do
not come through their territory.
At the goalmouth, Shane Samuga will do everything to prevent any scoring
chances from the United players.
Elsewhere, Inspac Rapatona will take on Tuguba Laitepo Blue Kumuls in the
main game of the double header at PNGFA Academy while Gelle Hills challenges
Madang Fox in the opening match.
The unofficial points ladder as of last weekend: Inspac Rapatona 15, Hekari
United 14, Kumuls 13, Gelle Hills 12, Welgris Highlander 7, Besta Madang
Fighters 4 and Madang Fox 1.
