Pari League commended

By THADDEUS TIRIMAN
THE acting director of the National Disaster Centre Martin Mose expressed gratitude to the people of Pari for donations they have made towards the Oro Disaster Appeal.
The donations have been made possible through the joint effort of the Pari Rugby League Association and the United church congregation. The bulk of the donations consist of clothes and a few eating utensils.
In receiving the donations yesterday at a small gathering at the Port Moresby Rugby League Club (PRL), Mose said. “This is a good gesture by the church and a sporting association in Pari, in giving to their fellow Papua New Guineans who are in great need at the moment. It is very encouraging as well as heartwarming to see a small community inside PNG taking an initiative like this, appreciating the fact that Papua New Guineans are very generous people culturally.”
He encouraged the people all over the country to give whatever they could to the Oro Disaster Appeal and assured the people of Papua New Guinea that their donations would go straight into assisting the people of Oro who had been affected by floods.
“Overall, it is more blessed to give than to receive and our concern is to clothe, feed and house the affected people of Oro and ensure they rebuild their lives after the disaster.” Mose said
Speaking on behalf of the people of Pari, Donisi Toi, who is also the President of Pari Rugby League association, said they wanted to help the people of Oro in this time of great need and hope they recover quickly from the disaster. According to him, this was the second time Pari villagers had donated to a disaster appeal. The first time was in 2004 during the Manam volcanic disaster.
