False allegations to discredit me, says Tamanabae

ORO Governor Suckling Tamanabae said the allegation of K220,482.12 of the district support grants (DSG) deposited into his personal bank account was done by certain people to discredit him.
He said he was told of the deposit of the DSG into his personal account by his first secretary and that he had instructed them to return the cheque to the provincial treasury account.
Mr Tamanabae was responding to recent media reports that the grants of the DSG were deposited into his personal account.
He said he only leant of the money being in his account, after the cheque was deposited.
He refuted claims in the media that he had given specific instructions for the cheque to be drawn under his name.
The statement attached with copies of several correspondences, most of them containing footnotes and signatures of provincial administrator Monty Derari.
Mr Tamanabae said it seemed people with ulterior motives had deliberation altered and raised the cheque in his name to smear his good name.
He said more than K220,482.12 was identified in the 2007 budget. The estimated amount adds up to K230,000:
* K25,000 was allocated for administration;
* K40,000 for the purchase of a Walkabout Sawmill to cut trees for school infrastructure under the provincial education infrastructure programme;
* K42,500 to fund provincial agriculture cash crop rehabilitation programme;
* K42,500 for the purchase of school materials including water tanks and solar powered accessories for teachers’ houses; and
* K80,000 for qualified engineering firm to research and prepared project documentation to secure a K23 million grant from the World Bank.
