Blessing for police
to play in Australia
POLICEMEN nationwide country will have the chance to
represent Papua New Guinea in their Police Rugby League World Cup in
Australia in November this year.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki has given his blessing for his officers to
take part in the Cup.
The Police World Cup is being staged at the same time as the RL World Cup.
In a letter to PNGRFL administrator Jeff Wade, Baki said, “I have no
objection and certainly think the event will boost morale for our policemen.
I am sure you will also find that there are many interested rugby playing
policemen around the country who will be willing to participate at this
inaugural event.”
The policemen will need to organise themselves and raise their own funds to
get to the tournament. The Royals clubs playing in affiliated leagues around
the country will need to liaise and organise selection trials to select the
strongest possible team to represent PNG.
Wade said the police organised a competition a few seasons ago to pick the
best Royals team in the country. They could use the same format to select a
team to represent PNG at the police World Cup.
He said the police can contact development officers in the various zones if
they require assistance in organising trials.
