Pastor or Governor?
Whilst Oro people are suffering from the disaster
caused by Cyclone Guba, Pr Suckling Tamanabae saw fit to go to the East and
West New Britain province at the expense of Oro people to participate in
crusades. 1. Why was the Oro governor in East and West New Britain provinces
when he should be at Oro province with the suffering people? 2. How and why
did government funds end up in his personal bank account in Kimbe? 3. We
need an explanation on that. 4. Oro Restoration Authority (ORA) should be
formed now to take over from the State of Emergency (SoE) when it’s lifted,
just like the East New Britain’s Gazelle Restoration Authority (GRA). Please
explain and decide between being a pastor or a governor. – Lukluk stap,

Menget’s efforts praised
Please let me air my admiration for a son of Semin of Nipa District/Southern
Highlands province. The man is Wilfred Menget, who built a 7km road from
Inte to Povoral off the main Okuk Highway. The road, which he paid his
fellow villagers to build, was opened by himself at the end of last
December. This is a good example of helping each other rather than waiting
for government services, which do not arrive. It takes years to do such a
thing and if one individual can do that to help his own people, some of us
who manage public money should do better. Mr Menget, we, your neighouring
district admire your conducts and performances and you are a true son of
Nipa. Keep it up and you will be richly blessed. – Distant watcher,

Monitor public servants
The Public Service Minister is absolutely right in saying millions of kina
is wasted on many public servants who do nothing. Ask anyone, even public
servants, and they will tell you that many of them just wait for their
fortnightly pay. However, the good minister does not need to undertake
another costly exercise to determine the extent of wastage. If DPM carries
out one of its core responsibilities of monitoring the performance of public
servants they will discover cases where two payments are made for one
position. To tackle the problem of wastage, the challenge for the minister
is to ensure DPM effectively assesses the performance of various
departments, restructure the departments with the view of reducing wastage.

Open Wapenamanda Airport
I would please urge the authorities involved to help re-open Wapenamanda
Airport, which has been closed for a long time. The ethic clash between the
Western Highlanders and Engans at Mt. Hagen will make it difficult for
people, especially students to travel to their destinations. Room allocation
for first year intakes at UPNG will start on Friday this week with many
students coming from three secondary schools in Enga. Those from Southern
Highlands will also be affected. The continuing students will have their
room allocations next week. Please do something about this now. – Publo,
UPNG
