Relief items for Rabaraba

FOOD, clothing and kitchen wear are among the relief supplies that are bound for disaster-struck Rabaraba district in Milne Bay province.
The Port Moresby-based Milne Bay disaster relief committee last Jan 31 transported the supplies consisting of mostly clothing to the Defence Force air transport wing at Seven Mile.
Committee members Laban Kautat and Sylvester Gwarimaia, together with their family members and relatives, sealed the bales and boxes of supplies and labeled them before they were transported.
“We are sending them straight to Rabaraba district because this area is badly affected,” Mr Kautat said.
Some of the areas located towards the border of Milne Bay and Oro province including Rabaraba were affected by the spill-over effects of cyclone Guba that destroyed most parts of Popondetta last November.
A total of five deaths were recorded after two elderly people and a family of three was washed away by flooded rivers.
Mr Gwarimaia said the committee was formed because individuals and families did not have a collection point after gathering stuff towards the Rabaraba disaster .
The items which included 20 bags of clothes weighing a total of 50kg; 26 cartons of clothes; kitchen wear and foot wear and six bales of clothing would be stored at the ATW until the supplies are ready for transport.
