New corporate games in place

IT will be a test of time management skills for private employees who will need to organise themselves well if they are to participate in corporate sporting competitions this year.

With the inclusion of netball, soccer, rugby union, and basketball to the corporate games calendar, this year is going to be a busy year.
Organiser and Corporate Games (PNG) Ltd managing director Ivan Ravu said the objective of the each competition is for corporate and private sector workers to break the home-office-home cycle and make time out for sporting and fitness activities.
Speaking at a media conference at the Port Moresby Rugby League club, Ravu stressed the importance of fitness, teamwork, sports leadership, commitment and integration at all levels of organisations.
Rugby Union and netball representatives were present at the press conference to put their support behind Ravu.
One sport included and is relatively new to the Papua New Guinea sports arena is men netball which is played widely in Australia and New Zealand.
The game is to be played in a mixed male and female division and will start next month at Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium every lunch hour.
Rugby union 10s competitions will also start next month and will be played at Lloyd Robson Oval every Friday evenings.
Other competitions to start later this year will be corporate basketball (August), corporate soccer (September), and with the rugby league corporate nines 2007 season still underway, 2008 season will start in August.
Positive responses have been received from several corporate team managers and Ravu is optimistic the competitions will go through this year successfully.
ìIf I can get four to five teams playing in the netball games and ten teams in the rugby union games before the end of this month the competitions will begin as planned,î Ravu said.
