Dept heads set to change

THE Government is expected to make major departmental head changes leading up to the national elections.
Sources said the National Executive Council will meet on Wednesday to give the green light to the changes.
PNG’s ambassador to the European Union based in Brussels Isaac Lupari is expected to be appointed Chief Secretary replacing Joshua Kalinoe.
Mr Kalinoe is expected to lead the newly-established Petromin, a company that will look after the Government equity interest in the petroleum and gas resources.
Cabinet two weeks ago appointed former Bougainville regional MP John Momis as new ambassador to China replacing Max Rai whose term has expired.
The Government is also expected to confirm the appointment of Bernard Pawih as petroleum secretary.
Cabinet is also expected to appoint a new National Planning secretary replacing Valentine Kambori whose term has also expired.
Sources said Foreign Affairs Secretary Gabriel Pepson will be replaced with cabinet expected to make an acting appointment on Wednesday.
Cabinet is also expected to announce the new commissioner-general of the Internal Revenue Commission after the resignation of former head David Sode, while Fred Punangi is in the running for reappointment as Defence Secretary.
The Government is also expected to announce a new head of spy agency, the National Intelligence Organisation.
The source said the Government is to make the changes before the writs are issued for this year’s general elections.
The Government takes on a caretaker role during the election period, until a new government is formed.
