Muruks lure top players

Pora is the latest player that the Southern Highlands team has poached from other SP Cup teams this year in an aggressive bid to defend the Cup which they won last year.
The others are Pora’s teammate Opisa Pomba, youngster Simon Young from Mount Hagen Eagles and underrated Jacky Kuman from ousted Wari Vele Raiders of Port Moresby.
Muruks officials said yesterday that the latest additions would boost their 2008 campaign. The team still boosts the services of player/coach Stanley Hondina, Samuel Nap, George Mone, Joseph Omai and Wesley Benny.
The full Muruks squad: Amos Kire, Wesley Benny, Charlie Wabo, Eric Wane, Felix Tangue, George Mone, Jacky Kuman, Johnnie Boi Toank, Jonathan Wagano, Joseph Omai, Kot Kerowa, Malachai Owen, Timothy Enep, Mathew Puke, Norbert Kembo, Opisa Pomba, Roderick Puname, Rodney Pora, Samual Nap, Seth Rip, Simon Young, Sova Milfred, Stanley Hondina, Steven Kua and Terry Toa.
The board also announced that John Kuni Embia is the trainer while Stanley Hondina is the player/coach.
Muruks franchise owner Thomas Higgins said that the full time training programme will be start next week in Lae.
Pora, who is Agmark Guria’s most valuable player, is originally from Western Highlands.
Meanwhile, attempts have already made to secure one more team to represent the Southern region in the SP Cup competition following the demise of Wari Vele Raiders.
Port Moresby Rugby League board chairman Solomon Ravu said yesterday that a committee is working on re-introduced a new-look Port Moresby Vipers team into the competition.
The Vipers have a proud record as the only team to win the SP Cup (formerly the Inter-City Cup) consecutively for three years.
Ravu is confident that a sponsor would come good to back Vipers before the competition starts in April.
Elsewhere, Enga Mioks have recruited Benjamin John and Luke Kolalio, outcasts from the Brian Bell Bulldogs. John and Kolalio are two Enga players wanted by Governor Peter Ipatas and the Ela Motors board.
