PNG look to Malaysia for aid in soccer

PAPUA New Guinea Football Association is trying to forge a working relationship with Football Malaysia in terms of training and technical development.
PNGFA president David Chung, who is currently on holiday in Malaysia, said yesterday that he has held meetings with the general secretary of Football Malaysia to discuss cooperation programmes.
“We verbally touched on areas of our national club, national team especially on youth to use Malaysia training facilities whereby they provide assistance with food and accommodation while our teams stay there,” he said.
“We can also participate in coaches and referees programmes and in return they can do the same while their teams tour Port Moresby, and also attend courses,” he said.
Chung said through an email that both PNG and Malaysia football associations have agreed in principle to have friendly matches by youth teams yearly on a rotation basis. This would mean that PNG visiting Malaysia and Malaysia reciprocating the following year.
He said he would be putting everything in writing to Malaysia Football general secretary Dato Azziudin Ahmad and the board of directors of Malaysia Football for approval, hopefully by April this year for an agreement to be signed.
Chung said PNGFA intends to promote and concentrate more on National Soccer League club pathway and youth teams.
