Still no poll update on EC website, five months on

THE final results of the 2007 general elections have yet to appear on the PNG Electoral Commission’s website, five months ago after the event.
Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen confirmed this yesterday saying he was disappointed at his officer’s poor performance in this regard.
Other organisations such as the National Research Institute are also concerned of the delay in the update.
“The national general election was a huge success. However, I am disappointed we had performed so poorly when it came to transmitting progressive results. We totally lost control of providing up-to-date progressive results. This is poor performance on the part of those responsible and a bad reflection on the electoral commission,” he said.
He made the remarks in his speech at the opening of the LLG Workshop, which started yesterday at Masurina Lodge for election managers and LLG advisers.
Mr Trawen further said that the electoral roll created for the national election for each ward may be used with or without modifications.
Dr Ray Anere from the National Research Institute has also raised concerns over the delay of results on the PNGEC website.
Dr Anere said the PNGEC results had only 23 final results out of 109.
He said the National Research Institute had 50 results so far out of the 109 seats and needed the rest of the results to conclude its analysis on the elections.
Meanwhile, members of local level governments will continue in office until the new elections are held in April.
Mr Trawen said the fact that LLG elections have not been held does not mean that they are no longer LLG members.
