Hoods losing grip on top spot in Lae

PAGINI Hoods are in danger of losing top spot to LBC-HB Raukele in Lae A grade cricket with only one game remaining before the finals series start in two weeks time.
Hoods’ unconvincing win against third-placed Koukou has given Raukele the confidence to go for the minor premiership when both sides meeting in the final game of the home and away season next week.
Hoods did well to restrict Koukou to a paltry score of 78 all out after skipper Namana Gure called correctly and chosed to bat first. tight bowling by hoods opening attack of Opi Ravu (1/7) and Tau Sere (0/9) saw the Koukou opening batsmen of Jason Gure and Mathew Ila struggle to make runs.
The introduction of spinners, skipper (3/7), veteran William Maha (4/15) and Walo Au (1/20) dried up the runs and koukou were bowled out for 78 with only consistent Gapi Mogala (28) being the only batsman to reach double figures.
In the Hoods innings, Pouna brothers Puka (28) Ronso (17) maintained their consistent form whilst Rodney Maha (5) and Sere (3) remained not out when they passed the total. Namana Gure led the bowling honours with 3 for 18 while Pate Au (1/7), Kila Gapi (1/13) and Tola Lopena (1/13) shared the other wickets.
LBC-HB Raukele withstood a strong challenge from Lagatoi before emerging victorious.
Lagatoi made 8 for 149 thanks mainly to Nou Ipi (31), Billy Heagi (21no), Moale Samuel (13no), Kila Winnie (13) and Vagi Samuel (12) after its mandatory 35 overs.
Wayne Aaron bowling for the first time did well to return 5 for 20 while the other wickets were shared among Allan Kila (2/23),Ravu Vuivagi (1/17) and Neville Wari (1/20).
Skipper Keimelo Vuivagi was unstoppable as he raced to a quick 53 before hauling out to Avea Igua (1/32), Gerea Ralewa remained unbeaten on 36 as Raukele passed Lagatoi’s total with five wickets down.
