THE relegation and promotion of soccer teams will be done for the last time this year as Port Moresby Soccer Association general meeting last Saturday have agreed to do away in 2009 season.
PMSA president Fabian Chow said that by 2009 there will be no automatic transfer but the top first division teams will have to play a sudden death to determine who advance to premier division.
These matches can be played as curtain raiser to the National Soccer League or in some competition to find out who qualifies for high division.
Chow said the promotion of MaClarence and Markham Yarang to premier division is the final according to old format.
The general meeting also agreed that premier reserve division will remain despite PMSA executive decision to axe it this year.
“After a long deliberation and prolong discussion, the meeting have decided that the premier reserve division remain as it would provide back-up players for the premier teams,”
Chow said there are better ways to make or utilize the premier reserve players than just axing the division in the competition.
The president also announced that there will be new Under 17 division in the Port Moresby soccer competition. This division comes directly under School Soccer Port Moresby but will be managed by the City league.
