Changes needed for clean city
Keeping Port Moresby clean is clearly an enormous
task but certainly not a difficult one. While Governor Powes Parkop is
committed to ensuring the cleanliness of the city by engaging youths,
mothers’ groups and cleaning contractors, and often at times goes out
himself with the NCDC staff, the city remains filthy. Along the highways
litter bags filled with rubbish are left uncollected until they tear and the
garbage spill out. At the bus-stops and markets garbage are piled and burnt
without supervision while other garbage heaps are left without being
collected and grows into a rubbish dump, while those tasked with cleanliness
are happily collecting their payments (including the Waste Management staff
of NCDC). Unless the modus operandi of the NCDC management is changed,
tax-payers money will continue to be wasted while the city continues to
remain filthy. – Anthony Bauwai, Lalokii
Good coordinators needed
I live in a remote station in the Telefomin district of Sandaun province. My
advise to Telefomin MP Peter Iwie, before you make any development plans
with the K10 million for our districts, you should remove those people with
no management skills who misuse funds and have stalled progress for the last
20 years. In reality Telefomin is the least developed district in the
country. Enough is enough, now is the time to recruit new people and start
implementing new projects. I believe some districts in the country have
already budgeted their K10 milion and have qualified administrators and
project coordinators in place. This year, is the year of implementation.
Iwie, I urge you to control and monitor the funds by making sure that monies
are used purposely for desperate projects. – Jungle man, Telefomin
Decision by PEB welcome
The Western Highlands province education system is one of the top four in
the country and latest development at Hagen and Hagen Park Secondary have
raised many eyebrows. I believe the Provincial Education Board took the
right decision to remove these headmasters because of questionable dealings
and maladministration. PEB should get a lawyer and defend its decision as it
is in the best interest of our kids’ education. Some managers of these
institutions are building their empires at the expense of little people. The
affairs of the three schools need to be investigated and it is notable that
Fatima Secondary has had poor academic performances in the last three years
compared with previous years. – Pii Poroko, Mt Hagen
NEC fails to make appointment
The prolonged delay in the appointment of the National Statistician is
causing a lot of concern among staff at the National Statistical Office at
Waigani. The contract of the incumbent National Statistician expired last
year. Since then, the position has been advertised in the two daily
newspapers. To date, the NEC has not made any acting appointment contrary to
the General Orders, which stipulates that an acting appointment should be
effected immediately by the NEC when a constitutional office holder’s
appointment becomes vacant. This procedure has not been followed in this
case. What does it imply? Is the NEC ignorant, slack or are the incumbent
National Statistician’s days already numbered? Can the NEC expedite the
appointment? – Statistician, Waigani
Probe MP ‘caught in the act’
The incident involving a MP and a teenage girl is really annoying and making
most of us the grassroots come to wonder how this kind of leaders were
elected. Aired on FM 100 during “Tok Straight” programme on Tuesday. Is this
what the people of this country expect from an elected member? Please stop
sexually victimising our young girls. To the MP, do you want your own
daughter to be treated like what you are doing to that young girl in a
public place in Port Moresby. Please investigate this MP! – Sick and
tired, via email
Congratulations Hondina
I would like to congratulate Stanley Hondina for his appointment as the
coach to fire the spirit of Muruks. – Mathew, China.
