Work underway at Malahang Industrial Centre

CONSTRUCTION works are underway at Malahang Industrial Centre in Lae, Morobe province, by six local, international and joint venture companies on a piece of land made available by the Industrial Centres Development Cooperation (ICDC).
A senior officer attached with ICDC, Kevin Kianda told The National yesterday that 33 of the 57 blocks were leased to local, international and joint venture companies in line with their ‘standard lease’ and down stream processing policy.
“The initial plan for ICDC is to lease land to companies that will provide down stream processing and manufacturing inline with the initial plan of ICDC,” Mr Kianda said, adding that after screening prospect applicants, ICDC have leased land to six companies under its plan.
Mr Kianda said the new developments and construction underway were from the Morobe Fishing Cooperation (MOFISCO), Redcoco Investment, Yuwai 29 Limited, Metal Refinery Operations (MRO), Canopus No 75 Limited and Project Support Service (PSS), adding that 24 blocks of land were still available within the ICDC premises for sale.
He said companies involved in down stream processing and manufacturing were given priority to construct their buildings within the industrial premises.
