Inspect businesses at mine site, says Tigavu

FORMER chairman of the Kurumbukari Landowners Association David Tigavu has commended the Secretary for Labour and Industrial Relations David Tibu for his report and recommendation on working conditions at the Basamuk site of the Ramu nickel project.
He said the recommendations had been given to the developer of the project and the company had given its full co-operation to act on the recommendations.
“What Mr Tibu did at the embryonic stage of the huge Ramu project should be a good example for monitoring agencies of the Government – get out there and inspect all forms of business enterprise and their practices and make them tow the line if they are stepping out of line.”
Mr Tigavu said he could not understand why people with vested interests, including the media, played politics and blew Mr Tibu’s recommendations out of proportion.
“You will not bring much-needed social services, development and regular income into my remote Usino Bundi area and Rai Coast whichs have suffered from lack of Government attention and services for over 30 years.
“You don’t know the realities in the remote area I come from,” he said in an advertisement.
