Time to move on: Dr Moiya

By LUCY KAPI
DR Ninkama Moiya, acting director of the National AIDS Council Secretariat, officially quit his job yesterday after serving for more than seven years.
Dr Moiya told The National yesterday he had decided to move on after being advised of the Jan 17 National Executive Council decision to appoint a new secretariat director.
He then informed the National AIDS Council on Jan 29 of his decision to end his career with the NAC.
Although Dr Moiya has left NAC, he will still be working with HIV/ AIDS issues after being offered a new job under an AusAID-funded project called the Sanap Wantaim.
“After I found out NEC had made the appointment, someone offered me a job and I took it,” he said.
“But this time, I will not be in the forefront of the organisation but at the back, providing advice to AusAID as to where funds should be allocated,” he said, adding he starts working in his new job next Wednesday.
Dr Moiya said he had enjoyed the seven years of his service with the NAC, with the first three years as a senior medical adviser, three years as director and one and half years as acting director.
He said during his term as the director, he had accomplished everything he wanted to do, including putting into place policies and mechanisms that would drive the NAC forward in the future and he was leaving satisfied.
“Under the new structure, all the mechanisms and guidelines are in place … all it needs is strengthening of these systems for the NAC to do well in the future,” Dr Moiya said.
He urged everyone, especially the young people, to take AIDS seriously.
