Marcus Bai robbed

BIG, burly footballers don’t cry, but PNG international Marcus Bai came close to it yesterday.
The former NRL star become emotional yesterday as he made a public appeal for the return of two premiership rings stolen from his Gold Coast home along with a laptop computer containing photographs of his son’s first birthday.
Bai, who won grand finals with the Melbourne Storm and Leeds Rhinos in England, and also represented Papua New Guinea, was away from his Burleigh Water home for only a few hours on Tuesday afternoon when the robbers struck.
They stole in 1999 Melbourne and 2004 Leeds premiership rings as well as the laptop and some of his wife Heidi’s jewellery.
Bai, who retired from rugby league last year, said that the ring and photographs held enormous sentimental value for him and his family.
He said it had been a “dream come true’ for a young PNG villager to play in the NRL and British Super League, but now his most cherished mementos from his playing days had been snatched away.
“I’m the first PNG to win those two rings and they’re worth so much to me,” he said.
Bai said he had hoped to pass the rings on to his sons three-year-old Aston and baby Cooper.
